Our fall 2010 celebration of the birth of Robert Schumann (1810-1856) explores evocative secular choral music of the romantic master, paired with music of his younger friend and protégé, Johannes Brahms. Hear the nineteenth century's Wanderlust expressed in Schumann's great Spanisches Liederspiel, Op. 74 and Zigeunerleben, and Johannes Brahms's Vier Zigeunerlieder, Op. 112. Brahms's playful salute to the tradition of German folk-waltzes (Ländler) – the Neue Liebeslieder, Op. 65 – completes our afternoon travels.
