2014 - 2015 Concert Season

The Choral Society's complete 2014-2015 season, is generously supported by a grant from The Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, a joint effort of the PA Council on the Arts and the Scranton Area Foundation, and by a Lackawanna County Arts and Cultural Grant, a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts.

General admission to most adult programs is $15.00
General admission to most children's/youth programs is $10.00
For most programs, children age 18 and under are admitted free.

The season opens with the festival sound of choir and soloists accompanied by brass ensemble, organ and timpani. Our program moves from Venice through the Lutheran, Anglican, and African-American church traditions and includes Gabrieli's monumental motet, In Ecclesiis, Monteverdis Exultent Caeli, Pachelbel's Nun danket alle Gott, Vaughan-Williams' O Clap Your Hands, Stanford's Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in G, Hailstork's Shout for Joy, and Pinkham's modern homage to Gabrieli, his 1957 Christmas Cantata.

A NEPA holiday tradition!  Welcome the season with a song as our full array of choirs-children, youth, and adult-join organist Dr. Timothy Smith for holiday selections, audience singing of traditional carols, organ show pieces, and a festive holiday reception.  We also collect new, unwrapped, non-violent toys and cash donations for the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves' "Toys for Tots" program.

POULENC: STABAT MATER & GLORIA

Our program pairs the two major accompanied choral masterpieces of Francis Poulenc, his 1951 Stabat Mater and 1959 Gloria. Enjoy Poulenc's unique sound, blending the seemingly disparate sounds of Stravinsky, Gregorian Chant, and Renaissance polyphony with those of French folksong and the Parisian dance-hall. Organist Mark Laubach, assisted by other instrumentalists, will accompany.

DAUGHTERS OF HILDEGARD

A program of works from notable contemporary female composers is headlined by Sylvia Glickman's Seven Deadly Sins, a cantata based on William Langland's medieval allegory, Piers Plowman, as well as Cynthia Folio's evocative Music Box. Additional music from Gwyneth Walker and Alice Parker.
